5-Day Declutter Challenge Checklist

Day 1: Tackle the “Easy Win” Zone

Focus: Choose one small, manageable space (like a junk drawer, bathroom counter, or nightstand).

  1. Empty the space completely.
  2. Sort items into three categories: Keep, Donate, and Trash.
  3. Only return items that serve a purpose or bring you joy.
  4. Wipe down the area before placing items back.

Quick Tip: Turn on your favorite playlist or podcast to make it fun!

Day 2: Clear the Clothing Clutter

Focus: Declutter your closet or a single clothing drawer.

  1. Pull out all the items.
  2. Ask yourself for each piece: Have I worn this in the last year? If not, it’s time to say goodbye.
  3. Create three piles: Keep, Donate/Sell, and Trash (for items beyond repair).
  4. Organize your Keep pile by type or season.

Quick Tip: If you’re unsure about an item, try it on. Does it make you feel confident and happy?

Day 3: Declutter the Kitchen Hotspot

Focus: Simplify one section of your kitchen (e.g., pantry, fridge, or a cabinet).

  1. Empty the area and wipe it clean.
  2. Check expiration dates on food items—discard anything expired.
  3. Group similar items together (e.g., snacks, spices, canned goods).
  4. Use bins or baskets to keep things organized and easy to access.

Quick Tip: Label shelves or bins for easy maintenance.

Day 4: Digital Decluttering

Focus: Clear the clutter from your digital life.

  1. Clean up your email inbox: Delete unnecessary emails and unsubscribe from spam.
  2. Organize your phone: Delete unused apps and photos you no longer need.
  3. Back up important files and photos to the cloud or an external drive.
  4. Create folders for easy organization.

Quick Tip: Set a timer for 20 minutes and see how much you can accomplish.

Day 5: The Emotional Clutter Zone

Focus: Address sentimental items that may be weighing you down.

  1. Choose a small collection of sentimental items (e.g., old cards, trinkets, or keepsakes).
  2. Hold each item and ask: Does this truly bring me joy, or am I holding onto it out of guilt?
  3. Keep only the items that make you smile or have a meaningful connection.
  4. Create a special box or display for sentimental treasures.

Quick Tip: Take photos of items you don’t need to keep but want to remember.
